As you explore the beaches of Avalon, you’ll search with a provided metal detector and follow a map of recommended hunting areas, including South Beach, Middle Beach, Step Beach (when tide conditions permit), and sandy stretches near the Tuna Club. Along the way, you may uncover Catalina Coins — special tokens that can be collected and redeemed for discounts on participating island activities, experiences, and local offerings. Each find adds a layer of reward beyond the beach, turning your adventure into an island-wide scavenger hunt with real perks. Each rental includes a high-quality metal detector, a brief hands-on training session, and everything you need to get started. No experience is required, making this a great activity for families, couples, groups, and solo explorers looking for something unique in Avalon. Rentals are available daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with one- or two-hour sessions available. A refundable $100 security deposit is required per metal detector and is returned when equipment is brought back on time and in good condition. Up to six detectors can be rented at once, making it ideal for group adventures. Your journey begins at 121 Clarissa Avenue, Avalon, CA, where our team provides instructions, search tips, and a map of recommended areas before you head out. Participants must be at least 12 years old, and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The experience involves walking on sand and uneven terrain, and may include bending, kneeling, and digging. We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a fully charged phone. Comfortable clothing and beach-appropriate footwear are encouraged. Pricing is $50 per hour (up to two hours). Applicable sales tax is added at checkout. Cancellations are non-refundable.
